Swimsuit Prelinaries Review
I just found out this morning that videos of the preliminary competition are now available on the Miss Universe Website. I highly recommend taking a look as this is a great opportunity for all of us to have a look see at what the competition will be like on Sunday.
It also gave me a better way of picking my Top 20 for swimsuit. My judging is based on a few factors including catwalk, fitness (i like long legs, a slim waist and you know what), and again overall impact on the runway.
I’ll only be providing comments for the first 10. Again this is not yet my final prediction list – which I’ll be putting out late tomorrow – and which I’d love you to come back for.
- Puerto Rico – Man this girl just oozes with sex appeal. She’s a master of the runway and also has one of the best bodies in the competition with nice curves and a great tan. She also has that certain x-factor that doesn’t let you forget a moment of that couple of seconds she graced us with her presence on stage.
- Ukraine – Here’s a girl who really surprised me. Seeing her swimsuit video rocketed her high to nearly the top of this list. She has nice spunk, a great bounce in her walk and lots of energy.
- Colombia – Colombia had been off my radar for a while but she performed great during the preliminaries making it very hard not to notice. She’s got a great smile and an amazing body and she sure can walk.
- Canada – With great height, nice long legs and a curvaceous figure she has all the right characteristics to top this competition but I really think she could exude a bit more sassiness.
- Switzerland – Just like in the evening gown competition Switzerland’s beautiful face is what you notice. But she’s proven that she can strut her stuff as well. I was very pleased to see her well prepared for this. She’s got an amazing figure and the right proportions.
- Israel – Here’s a big surprise from the preliminaries – from the very beginning I’ve always liked her face with those pinkish cheeks. I must say she did amazing in the swimsuit competition. I wouldn’t be surprised if this performance pulls her all the way into the Top 20. If she can get past the evening gown competition (which then cuts down the girls to 10) I wouldn’t be surprised if she lands in the Top 5 either.
- Mexico – I think Mexico could have been more sassier and expressive during her walk. I was expecting her to exude a bit more sensuality that Spanish women are known for. Still she did pretty well – but she could do much better.
- Australia – Another very pretty face that didn’t live its full potential on the runway. I’m thinking this girl could also do much better than she did tonight. I had to keep on re-watching her video – she kept on doing the same thing with her wrap – it didn’t impact me much to really remember.
- Philippines – Making up for her not so stellar performance in the evening gown competition, this was obviously Lia’s forte. I think she has great personality and it shows on the runway every time she smiles you can feel her warmth.
- Dominican Republic – Here’s another great performance with the latin flair I was talking about. She was very comfortable on stage and her body looked great except I guess that it could be tanned a bit more.
