Nokia SMS Accelerator
I’ve been using the Nokia N80 for a couple of months now and although its a great phone (Nokia’s first 3MP wonder & first with WiFi support) the biggest pain has been the “SMS Problem” where the time it takes to send an SMS message is directly proportional to the date of your last reformat.
When you’ve had it for months your phone can take about 5 to 10 minutes to send one SMS message while your phone hangs the whole time.
Back in May I was hopeful that an upgrade to firmware number 3.0617.0.6 would solve the problem but it did not. And thus the only solution really was to reformat the phone each time it got too much to bear.
And this is not an isolated problem, in fact I’ve had several friends and strangers coming up to me wanting to know if we shared the same nightmare each time we wanted to send an SMS. It was cause enough to bring us together.
What my gym coach, newsroom colleague, master’s classmate, and even that girl at the bank don’t know yet is that Nokia silently released a fix called the Nokia SMS Accelerator last week, perfect timing indeed as I was planning on another soon.
It appears that this problem sadly affects several other phones including the N93 and E61 as well. A patch has been released for each of these models.
Just so you know, I tried the patch on my N80 last night and thankfully it fixed the problem – no reformat needed. Whew!

Yeah I did. Now that you mention it I forgot to publish an update last year about what I decided on. I got a N70 sometime in Feb and loved it so much until I also got the N80. Now that the sms problem is solved – I’m loving it more. But my friend’s N73 can definitely take better photos hands down.
By the way gym instructor, colleage and master’s classmate all installed the update and are thanking me profusely. What freedom!

A friend of mine is using a Nokia N70 and is having the same problem. My question is, can she use the same patch on her phone? Thanks for sharing….

Yes of course she can. Just download it from the link, send the installer to her phone and install. Her phone will slow down for about a minute but after that, its lag-free SMSing.

im using nokia 3250 and i have the same prob too…
i’ve heard about that software..(sms accelerator)
the problem is, where can i find the installer…
and im hardly find the installer for nokia software…
where can i get those…

I am using Nokia 7610.
Can i use the installer of a different handset on my 7610?

what sms accelerator can I use for N70? Will the N80 or N73 sms accelerator suitable for N70 as well?
As far as I know there’s no sms accelerator for N70, right?

For the benefit of everyone who’s asked. I’ve done a little research. As of August 2007 here are the only SMS Accelerator patches released by Nokia.
@Maldito – I don’t think there’s one for the 7610
@Ralf – same thing I don’t think there’s one for the 6600 either. Could be another problem altogether.
@ Danny Boy – yes. you could try but the fact that they did not issue one for the N70 could mean the problem doesn’t exist for the phone. You can try? I have a N70 and I don’t have that problem on mine.
