Time to Switch

I’ve got to get myself a gun! John and I both stared enviously at our friends’ Taurus 9mm Pistol the other day. Our friend said it was a gift but if we were to buy a similar model it should set us back by around P40,000.

“I think I’ll pass on that,” John said. “I’ve got to save up for a Mac mini.” I beamed back a smile of fulfillment knowing that my constant prodding hadn’t gone to waste. John reformats his Windows based PC at least once a week due to all sorts of problems that pop up. If there’s anyone who should seriously consider switching to the Macintosh platform it should be him.

I’m sure he’d be glad to hear that Apple quietly rolled out their upgraded iBooks and Mac minis today. Both are consumer products and this time around Apple has upped the specs and lowered the prices.

The new iBooks start at $999 while the new Mac minis start at $499. 512MB RAM is now standard across the board with Bluetooth and wireless capability finally becoming standard in the iBooks as well.

The iBooks also get Apple’s scrolling-enabled trackpad and Sudden Motion Sensor the two technologies that debuted earlier this year on PowerBook models. There were no widescreen models as initially rumored.

The Mac mini on the other hand had only minor revisions besides the RAM upgrade. The $599 model gained built-in AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth. While a new $699 Mac mini with a 4x SuperDrive was added to the line up. Of course the Mac mini doesn’t come with a display, keyboard and mouse but if you have an old system you can use your old devices, no worries.

Lest this sounds like a paid commercial, I will clarify that it is not. Some sort of commission would be nice but it is not necessary. I’ve already been won over by the last 8 months of blissful computing; not a crash, virus infection or blue screen of death in sight.

In this day and age, compatibility between platforms is hardly an issue. Most common file formats such as Microsoft office documents, images and music files can be opened on either side. It is time to switch. With hardly a price difference between the two (PCs and Macs) there isn’t any reason not to.

John’s finally got it right, you should too!

Miaka – Yes a Powerbook will suit you perfectly. Does you company have any products for the platform? Like I always say, the easiest solution for al you clients to just switch to Mac. Then again you’d be out of a job.

Beatlebum – I should have looked you up sooner. Glad to hear from you’re obviously doing great. Cheers!

well i was thinking of shifting to mac but the problem is i think they are a bit over priced here in the philippines.

or am i checking the wrong stores?

  8. michaeljosh Says:

Raf, you can get in touch with the Apple Authorized resellers, they tend to be much cheaper than getting it directly from the Apple Stores. I get my macs from Ynzal and LMK. Here are their numbers:

    Ynzal: 413-7574/75 • 413-7578/79
    LMK: 852-5223 • 852-2554 • 853-0555

You can also try visiting the Philippine Macintosh Users Group (PHILMUG) site. It is a great community.
