Video iPod

Video iPod. Okay Apple doesn’t call it that, (it’s just plain old iPod to them) but as expected Apple today announced the last member of this year’s iPod lineup. The new iPod with video playback abilities. The 60GB Model can store up to 15,000 songs, 25,000 photos, and 150 hours of video. Apple also sells a 30GB model, both units are thinner than the present models but come with bigger 2.5″ displays. Both are thinner than today’s 20GB model. Prices remain unchanged at $299 for the 30GB model and $399 for the 60GB model. They will be available within a week.

The iPod has really evolved into a great multimedia device. You can now listen to and view music, photos, TV shows, music videos, audiobooks, home movies, podcasts, shorts and video podcasts (such as the one we do H.I.T).

Video support is for H.264 in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats.

What else is new?

- Earphone port is located off center (towards the right). Just as the nano, it no longer has that additional port for remote earphones which also means it looses support for accessories such as the Griffin iTalk and Macally portable stereo speakers.
- Battery life has also improved. Apple claims the new iPod can handle 20 hours of battery life.
- A new but optional Universal Dock features support for the new Apple Remote.
- Drops support for Firewire Cable. Also as seen in iPod nano device charges and syncs via USB 2.0 only

The iTunes Music store has also been updated to include 2,000 music videos. You can also download ABC and Disney television shows (Lost, Desperate Housewives, Night Stalker, The Suite Life and That’s So Raven) and Pixar Short Movies.

In the end I was right to want one before it was even annouced. Hopefully before Christmas I can get my hands on the best iPod ever.

[...] Apple just released its newest iPod with video support. Details can be found in my blog post. This includes support for music videos, tv shows they sell on the iTunes music store, and vidcasts. It is pretty exciting where this will lead. In the future you will be able to watch the show on your iPod. [...]

Dude, you got content spam before my post. Do something ’bout it.

Anyway, on my comment on the video capable ipod “ITS ABOUT TIME” because of the windows PMC and similar video playing devices like the archos gmini, etc. Apple Might be the catalyst for the popularity of video on the go. And i think it is cheaper that other video capable devices at the same capacity.

The question is now is battery life. With the video capability, how long do you think battery life would last?

It actually varies between iPods. A 30GB model will last 2 hours on video, the 60GB will last only up to 3 hours. Not that good.

I’m confused does this ‘video’ tag mean it can play actual films or simply hours of music videos?
